July 6, 2008
This year’s theme, “The Beat Goes On!” is in honor of Michigan City as the host site for the first time for the Drum Corps International World Regional Competition in August. The theme is a reflection upon how proud we are as a city to have such an honor.
Michigan City’s 53rd annual Summer Festival Parade will be held Sunday, July 6. The parade steps off at 1 p.m. and travels along Franklin Street from 10th Street to Ames Field. Crowds are often four and five deep on the sidewalks along the parade route, with spectators arriving early to get choice spots.

The Exchange Club and Salvation Army will be conducting a food drive for the
needy before the parade. People are asked to bring non-perishable canned food
items, or a cash donation, which will be collected along the parade route.
The parade usually has around 180 entries, and will include a number of drum
and bugle corps units that will perform later that evening at
the Drum Corps International Pageant of Drums competition at Ames Field.
Scheduled to participate in the parade are Classic Cavaliers Alumni Corps, Rosemont, Illinois; Lakeshoremen, Troy, Michigan; Blue Saints, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada; Legends, Portage, Michigan; and the Steeltown Brass, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
Parade units will line up on Washington Street from the Post Office to Ninth Street, with some units on side streets around 10th and Franklin. The parade line-up will be listed in The News-Dispatch a day or two before the parade.
