| Is there a charge for Michigan City Summer Festival Events? |
Many events are free, some have nominal charges or charges for parking; however, all events are priced to be the best value for the Michigan City community. Check out our summary of events for more details on each and their respective fees, if any. |
| How do I go about getting an application for the Big Parade? |
Forms can be obtained at the Michigan City Parks & Recreation Department in Washington Park, at Virk’s BP Amoco on Franklin Street, or online via our Online Resources section. |
| How can I get my band into one of the festivals? |
Typically, entertainment is lined up at the beginning of the year (in January or February). If you have not yet sent in a promo/demo pack, that would be your first step.
Also, it is a good idea to play local clubs to get your name noticed and recognized by Summer Festival Board Members. We frequently look for new names on a billboard and stop in to check out the entertainment. With some talent and a little luck, you could be the next BIG Summer Festival event!
Please send your band’s promo/demo packs to:

| Why aren’t the Fireworks held on the 4th of July? |
Our fireworks are held in conjunction with the Lakeview Fundays in the Park Festival. This festival, and specifically the Fireworks, draw large crowds to Washington Park. The 4th of July is already a large draw due to its status as a National Holiday and it presents a parking problem for those wanting to view the Fireworks. In addition, most surrounding communities host their Fireworks on the 4th so this gives other communities a chance to enjoy ours as well.

| What is a good time to arrive for Fireworks? |
Washington Park expects over 40,000 spectators at our annual Lakeview Fundays in the Park & Fireworks display so we recommend getting to the park at least two hours early to find a good viewing area. Keep in mind that no matter what time you arrive, with the festival going on, live entertainment on the Jaycee Stage, and regular beach-goers, it WILL be crowded. Expect to walk from your parking space to the fireworks viewing areas.

| What’s the 50/50 drawing and how can I get a ticket for it? |
The 50/50 drawing is held each year as a Summer Festival fundraiser. Tickets are sold throughout the summer, with the drawing held during Oktoberfest at the Michigan City Senior Center. The winner receives 50% of the proceeds and does NOT need to be present to win.
Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased at the Michigan City Parks and Recreation Department, Virk’s BP Amoco station on Franklin Street, at most Summer Festival events, or from any Summer Festival Board member. |
